Aloe vera juice, which is sold online and in health food stores, has been linked to various health benefits in the past and is well documented in many cultures for it’s medicinal properties.

The recommended six to eight ounces a day are touted to relieve constipation while also treating diarrhea (yes, you read that right), reduce inflammation in the joints, and support the immune system by stimulating the production of white blood cells. And that’s just the major stuff.

Many health-experts and all-natural-dieticians claim that drinking aloe vera juice can help to detoxify your body by killing off harmful bacteria in the digestive tract and colon all while improve circulation, which can make everything from your skin to your internal organs healthier.

Despite all of the claims, there is not a significant amount of scientific research that proves many of these more dramatic benefits of drinking aloe vera juice. However because aloe vera is good source of many important vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals, it is logical to assume that aloe vera juice can play a role in supporting your overall health and well being.

However, one pretty substantial benefit of drinking aloe vera juice is supported by science: this natural liquid can have a significant impact on the immune system; in fact, it is actually recommended to those with immunodeficiency orders, and has been approved by the FDA for this purpose since the mid-1990s.

While drinking aloe vera juice may not be the be-all, end-all when it comes to nutrition, it can be a healthy (although somewhat unappealing in flavor) addition to your diet. Just make sure that you discuss this supplement with your doctor or primary care provider first, as aloe vera can interact poorly with certain over the counter or prescription drugs.
